UdK Berlin Rundgang 2021

Streben nach dem Ideal – Vorstellungen von Stadt und Gesellschaft.

Juliane Aleithe

The posters on display are the result of the seminar "Striving for the Ideal - Ideas of City and Society. From Heavenly Jerusalem to the 20th Century". If we look at the designs of ideal cities, such as those drawn and described by Filarete with "Sforzinda" (1460-1464), Claude-Nicolas Ledoux with "Chaux" (1804) and Charles Fourier with his "Phalansterè" (1849), their influence on planned cities in general becomes apparent. The greatest role in these design approaches is played by the belief that architectural structures can guarantee, plan and realise an ideal coexistence, a better society. In the course of the seminar, urban designs of the Middle Ages, the early modern period and the Baroque, as well as those of the 18th century, beyond classical modernism to the multi-layered 20th century with its proponents and opponents of megastructures were discussed. Utopias, questions of the right form, the role of science and political orientation as well as possibilities of demonstrations of power, reconstruction and criticism of the ideal planned cities were on the agenda.
