allnächtlich | 阑夕
As soon as a smart irrigation systems is installed, we tend to take it for granted. Such a system keeps the plants and soils from drying out and does its part for photosynthesis. However, the controlled amount of water supply represents a human attempt to modify nature: the balance between positive and negative values. We move into a hybrid world, where natural being and artefacts entangle more and more with each other on a rather dependent and functional level. The water system on the southern side of Valentinswerder consists of underground tubes through which water is pumped every night according to a smart weather app. We infiltrate and install an additional automatism which we call „allnächtlich | 阑夕“. The installation plays with our conventional way of thinking about functional systems. It is an attempt to emphasize the beauty rather than the functionality of a programmed automatism. The conditions: it is night, water is needed and is available.
