Otherworldliness – A Photography Project in Flash
In search of the otherworldly and uncanny on the streets of Berlin, this project showcases a collection of experiments with flash. Each of the total 48 pictures is connected to a key word, enhancing the subtile feeling of moving through a dreamlike world.
Flash light is used as a means of creation and composition: it shapes a setting made of many layers, reminiscent of a set design. The harsh light eliminates details and contours, but it also enhances the objects in front of the camera lens.
The space and situation we observe change with the incidence of light. Moving on a line between day and night, scenes in flash light often seem to be surreal and impalpable – as if everything happened in another time, at another place. Embracing this thought, the photographs seize the obscure in the ordinary.
