DER STAND DER DINGE - ein Hörstück in 39 Bildern
DER STAND DER DINGE – an audio-piece in 39 scenes A corona-creative final project from the degree programme Voice/Opera in the Speech Training subject area. “Whenever you’re uncertain whether you’re saying or doing something sexist, try the most simple sexism test there is: imagine the situation with reversed gender roles.“ (Margarete Stokowski) In DER STAND DER DINGE (“The State of Things”) – an audio-piece in 39 Scenes, we give this test a dramatic go. By having reversed gender attributions, the characters in Maja Zades’ play status quo reveal underlying power relations in society. Men get treated the way women usually do. Patterns of inequality emerge, and hidden every day sexism shows itself. In professional situations as well as in the process of artistic work in theatres, a difference is made by assigning gender. Additional texts from other time periods and perspectives form a collage that spans from Euripides via Friedrich Schiller to Margarete Stokowski. Bonus Treat: In “how to be a feminist“, we provide helpful advice for future feminists.
