The design of the alternative record cover for Stereolab's album Dots And Loops (1997) is a tribute to the optical illusions of psychologist Akiyoshi Kitaoka. The circular pattern, which reflects the shape and dimensions of the record, appears to rotate. The design directly relates to the psychedelic, repetitive nature of the music and offers a literal visual translation of the album's title - shown are dots (dots) that always repeat (loops).
