Sounds of Rototo Toro
Rototo Toro is a self-built instrument that gives out pulse width modulated (PWM) signals. The instrument can be used to control small DC motors. Depending on their placement on a metal plate resonator, a variety of sounds can be achieved. If placed in different objects made out of different materials (glass, metal, plastic...), many additional sounds are possible. The performance “Sounds of Rototo Toro” explores the rich palette of sounds of the instrument “Rototo Toro”. It leads the listener through the very nature of the motor sounds, the buzzing, whining noises that are reminiscent of the beatings of the fly’s wings, resonances that bring out the chanting of unknown voices. It is a trip through the never ending rotation, rotating over and over, but always revealing unexpected frequencies and rhythms. The performance is a contemplation about rotating energies, nature, voices and noises.
