Cycle within Berlin

Renata Altenfelder Santos De Souza Dias Yasemin Çakır Mary Adekoya

“Cycle within Berlin” is a succession plan for the pop up bike lanes. The concept is both safe to use and informative in terms of design and construction. The emphasis on the uniqueness of the city as a whole and on the individual districts is equally important. Various geographical and social traffic situations were investigated for the new design. A system of patterns was then developed. The patterns consist of simplified forms, which derive mainly from iconic architectural markers in each district. The designs for the districts of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, Tempelhof-Schöneberg and Mitte are shown below.

According to geographical and social factors, bike lanes were divided into three main categories. The icons show where the different design patterns take place.

The information boards show a map of the entire bike lane and its surroundings. You can find out about the different traffic situations in the area and get an overview of the infrastructure found on site, such as pumping stations, supermarkets and public toilets.
